  32. Autorotation not only works very well, but demonstrating the ability
  33. to make an autorotation landing is a pre-requisite for a helicopter
  34. pilot certificate.

  36. There is a very large amount of energy in a spinning heli blade, and
  37. the principle of autorotation is to maintain that energy while using
  38. the drag of the blades to maintain a steady (albeit high) rate of
  39. descent until just before landing, when the rotational energy is
  40. used to decelerate the heli.
